Ms. Michelle Eleazer Smith

Ms. Michelle Eleazer Smith is the Executive Director of Institutional Research at the College of Charleston. Michelle is a College of Charleston alumna, receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Mathematics in 1991 and 1992, respectively, with emphases in computer programming, accounting, and statistics. She was hired after graduation as a Budget Analyst, and was quickly recruited to work for IR in 1993. She established IR’s extensive data architecture which supports the College’s data-driven decision-making initiatives and official census reporting for the state and federal governments. With over 30 years of IR experience, Michelle serves as a campus and external resource for data integrity, data standards and reporting solutions. She is a SAS programming expert and experienced Tableau dashboard developer. The strategic planning dashboard she developed received 3rd Place Best Interactive Report by the Southern Association for Institutional Research in 2022. Outside of the office, Michelle has participated in bowling leagues since she was a young child, earning numerous local and state honors and two national titles over her 40-year competitive career. She is honored to have been inducted into both the local (Greater Charleston) and statewide (South Carolina) bowling Halls of Fame for bowling achievement. She previously served on the Greater Charleston bowling association board as a director and officer.
